Frequently Asked Questions
Does RBCPay hold my funds?
No. RBCPay does not receive, hold, safeguard or independently settle customer funds. Payments are processed separately by independent third-party payment providers according to their terms, policies and applicable law.
Does RBCPay act as an escrow company?
No. RBCPay is a marketplace transaction-management platform. It is not a bank, escrow agent, trustee or custodian of customer funds.
Who processes the payments?
An independent third-party payment provider selected for the transaction. That provider processes and settles the payment under its own terms, policies and applicable law.
Does buyer approval release money?
Approval is recorded on the transaction record. Whether and when funds move is determined by the applicable payment provider under its own rules, not by RBCPay.
Can I use an independent title company or lawyer?
Yes, and for most property transactions you should. Their searches, opinions and closing documents can be recorded in the transaction file. RBCPay does not appoint, approve or certify title companies, lawyers or notaries.
Does RBCPay verify property ownership?
No. RBCPay provides tools for recording title, ownership and lien information. It does not independently verify ownership, title validity or encumbrances. That remains with the participants and their own title or legal professionals.
What happens if there is a dispute?
RBCPay organizes the transaction information, including agreements, disclosures, inspection reports, documents and messages, so there is a clear record. Payment disputes, refunds and reversals are handled by the applicable payment provider or financial institution.
Can I track the status of my transaction?
Yes. Deadlines, conditions, inspections, documents and participant activity are recorded on the transaction file so every party can see where things stand.
Is my personal information secure?
Information is handled under the privacy policy, with access controls and activity logging on the transaction record. What is collected, how it is used and how long it is kept are set out there.
Does RBCPay guarantee the property or closing?
No. No guarantee is given about a property’s condition, title, value, zoning or whether a transaction will close. Those depend on the participants, their professionals and applicable law.
